I do not believe the offering various therapies to heal autism

How I do believe with the various therapy offering. I was doing therapy for my child who has autism syndrome. Therapy was offered by two doctors when my son was three years old. I made this therapy at a ‘special mother and child hospital’ in Indonesia. Therapy was held for six months. even the doctors had offered me a kind of sedative to calm my child that tends to hyperactive. However, I did not give the sedative to my child.
How can a disease that does not know the cause treated.
According to me, they are the experts have to find the causes of the occurrence of autism first, and then provide a new drug or therapy. During this time I follow the developments on the autism case, as related to what happens to my child. But no one that can be concluded what the cause of the autism syndrome. There are many opinions that autism syndrome caused by the descent, the other said, because the damage from the mercury substances found in foods that are eaten by the pregnant mother. But all of that can not be evidenced. Then how should I trust the opinion that it basically does not has evidence?
When my wife pregnant, we go to a doctor every week to check-up the baby in the womb. All seem ok. There was no shortage of any kind. Until birth, the child we never separated from the supervision of a doctor. But what happens, my child was punished has autism syndrome.
I only hope that in some day there is an announcement about the causes and the syndrome autism that experts know how to improve the children who have got autism.

Effective way to teach children with autism syndrome to read

What I am going to write below is already worked on my child that has autism syndrome.
I did not find this way intentionally. This happens naturally.
Since the beginning, my son is very interested in music and sounds. He enjoyed the song from audio visual. It was possible that my treatment influence him since he was still a baby. Time baby, I put a small radio near him. And she enjoyed every song or music from the radio. If feel sleepy, he did not want to sleep in before turn on songs from tape recorder. When he can hold remote control and can operate it by himself, it’s many more his activity with the remote control to find songs. In conclusion he is very interested in the songs and sounds are rhythmic.
Initially it made me irritated because he turn-on then turn-off the audio repeatedly. However, because he enjoyed, I leave it.
The most effect on his ability to read is from CD audio. He loves most songs that have text. When playing audio, each stanza of the song texts, he stops then rewind repeatedly. Even, not only of each stanza, but each word of the lyric he repeats many times.
I provided him toys that have letters, but it was only a little taken his attention and it’s just decorated in his room.
At the age of three and a half years my son has already got ability to read. I was initially less confident with his ability to read. But after I test with a turn the letter again and again, found my child can already read.
Conclusion is through the strong interest of the child. And provide tools or toys related to his interest, complete it with the text.
In the case of my child, he was interested in music and songs, has brought him fortune to be able to read at age three and a half years.

Autism, a father experience has a son with autism symptoms

First of all I have to say to you that my English is limited, but since I would like to share my experience, I wrote this article.
At this time my son’s age is seven years old. He was born on 29 May 2002 at a top class hospitals in Bekasi, Indonesia. He was born with the Caesar operation help.
In his mother womb, my baby was very active. His moving in the stomach was extraordinary.
For parents who were waiting for a born forward, certainly we were very happy, although sometimes her mother suffered a pain holding the baby in the stomach.
Since the doctor stated a positive pregnant, we, my wife and I diligently consulted the development of the pregnancy once a week. Never absent. And the doctor said that the baby was healthy. My wife planned to birth normally.
But the plan did not bear normally, even already more than 6 hours born process begins. In Indonesia, there is a term called ‘pembukaan’ means opening of the womb, ie, how wide opened the womb mother began, usually measured with the fingers. Starting from one finger, which is called the opening first up to opening tenth, all fingers, can get in to help children out of the mother's womb.
At the time of the opening eighth already, the doctor called me and said that my wife needs surgery to take the baby out with Caesar operation.
Because of so tense, as of a father, I approved any direct suggestion of a doctor. I also considered the doctor knows better what to do.
After the operation finished, the nurse called me to see the newborn baby (in Indonesia, sometimes the baby's father are not permitted to accompany the wife is in surgery), my baby was normal, healthy, and certainly good looking like his mother.
Day by day passed and my baby appear very normal and was likely hyperactive.
At the age of one year, we traveled by plane to celebrate the first birthday. In the plane, even though he was vomiting, but his hyperactive not subside. In his mother pick, he loves kicking a chair at front of him so that the passengers who sit in were disturbed.
The time he started learning to walk, we provide equipment baby walker. Sometimes he did not like the baby walker and tend to swarm out from there.
At the age of one year three months, our children have started walk alone.
At the age one and five months, my child had already been running smoothly and always moving around. On a happy run, my child slipped and his head back hit quite hard at floor. He was crying, but it’s not too long.
At the age of two years, even though he would be laughing, but not yet speak out a word. He just screaming and ran around.
He was interesting very much in music and sounds.
He watched some hour-long video music. With remote control in his hand, the video was turned off-turn on repeatedly while he was laughing. He was pleased wit the song has a text.
When sleeping, he always disturb with a sounds outside, especially music sound. We gained him from the sounds, but his hearing very sensitive.
Even with sensitive hearing, but if his name called, he did not care and did not respond. Therefore, we bring him to doctor to be evaluated. But the doctor just cleaned his ears and said that his hearing was normal. But the doctor was a bit skeptical with the autism.
Although the doctor was suspicious with autism, but I was not sure, because some autism symptom signs that I read from the internet is not met. And people around us who have experienced says that every child have their own development.
There was one that attract my attention, my son never stop moving even though only a little and he loves jump around in bed, even to high-level, which makes me a bit worried as well. This was always often done.
Because of this, I often brought him to a game palace where children have the tool to jump. I was impressed with his balancing. He could jump high and rarely fall accidentally.
At the age of three years, because of no talk two-ways, we consulted to a specialist. The specialist was doubt with his opinion. With some tests, my child was normal, and even tend to be smart in his age, but no talk.
Although the specialist said the doubt of his opinion it tend was the autism symptoms, but he was not sure with the right opinions. He offered us to the therapy.
We follow the doctor suggestion with the therapy twice a week. Therapy was to train his concern and train his motorist.
But I was disappointed with the motorist trainers because if tend to punish my child if he did not follow his instruction. Therefore I stop motorist therapy. However, we keep continuing with the concentration therapy until six months last.
There was one more remarkable in my child. At the age of three and a half years, my child could read already, without our taught. Although we prepared equipment letter, but because of difficulty taught, the tools was only a decoration in his room. Suddenly he began to spell what he read. I was initially less confident with his ability to read and consider it only because ability to remember which usually happens to the child in his age. But after I test with a turn behind the letter, it appears that he can read well.
I look how he can read. I found the answer, because he likes music, watch videos, and happy music that have text, and his habit to turn on and off, that is how he learned to read.
There is another marvel, the ability to play organ. Because of his music hobby, I provide him with a variety of music toys even real music like guitar and organ.
At this time he can play the tone in the organ, tones for each song of his interested. He prefers to play organ manually, without assisted rhythm. With his tenth fingers, he can even accompany the songs with the bass tone as well. I am very impressed with the ability to play this organ.
At the age of five years, we entered him to the kindergarten school. When done from kindergarten, we entered him to regular primary schools. At first I considered to enter him to abnormal primary school, but the principals in that schools recommend us for entering to regular school.
Even now his mother still accompany him in the class because of our worry with his disturbing to other children who are learning and because of his not to dwell but In the class he got ranking two.
There is one more remarkable in his ability, to sing a new song just appear on tv. He remember who the singer name, what the title is and who the creator of that music. In Indonesia, there is TV station that show ‘the missing lyric’, sometimes I test his ability with the event, and for the songs that now appear on the tv and he knows every lyrics song.
Although many prosperity, but we have to keep an eye on because some time he does not be aware with the dangerous. He loves swarming the tree to high-level and some time does not hold at tree branches.
Keep on eye to a continual basis some time make us so tired.
Now he can speak but still poor speaking. He is talking but some time we can not understand what he is trying to deliver. Sometimes he delivered something with the song’s lyric. However, he can be, for example, wear clothes in order, brings out the trash, or some other command.
He actually want to be have a friend, and often ran about children who are contemporaneous, but children sometimes do not understand what he want so they tend to deny. However, he still does not want to get away from the throng of children.
We are always waiting when he can communicate smoothly. We hope some time there is a way to heal autism. Because as a family with autism children, oversee ongoing is very tiring.
However, affection and love to our children will never subside.

A Spiritual View Of Autism

The value of a spiritual view of autism is that it enables the pain of limitation and helplessness suffered by those who experience significant impairment and those who care for them to be held within a sense of purposefulness and meaning. This can support individuals and families with a sense of truth and love, even during times of greatest challenge.

To begin with, there are many layers of understanding that relate to the phenomenon of autism, and each has to be viewed in its own right.

Within one layer are the demonstrable expressions of impaired neurological functioning that are the basis for such things as seizures, aphasias, difficulty performing routine motor tasks, nervous gestures or tics, and other anomalies of nervous system functioning.

Within another layer are the problems of thought and speech that have to do with difficulties in communication, strange thought patterns related to non-ordinary perception, difficulty forming coherent thoughts or forming thoughts whose sequence is intelligible only to the person expressing them; also patterns of thought and speech that are perseverative that have to do with brain synapse functioning and the ways in which neural energy gets released. All of these aspects of autism are also within the layer defined by physical functioning.

Within a third layer are the social and emotional aspects of autism which are often considerable and which vary in degree from person to person.

Yet, there is still another layer within which lie the reasons that autistic functioning is more prevalent today and also more widely understood. It is this:

For a long time now, humanity's brain function has emphasized the left side of the brain, once the right-brain functions went into recession thousands and thousands of years ago. This left-brain functioning has overemphasized certain aspects of the brain's capacities and eliminated or significantly reduced other capacities associated with right-brain functioning. The need of the time we are in, however, is to bring into balance right and left-brain functioning, and for this purpose, heightened neural and brain activity is needed to connect the two hemispheres. This increased activity requires an adaptation by the human organism in order to tolerate the increased charge to the neural pathways, and sometimes, when this adaptation is incomplete or limited, it is possible for the system to become overcharged or overstimulated, with subsequent problems in releasing the excess energy that is taking place on a cortical level.

This feature is often associated with a particular genetic picture or predisposition and so it is. However, it is also associated with the wider spiritual phenomenon that is occurring today which involves humanity's movement into the next level of its spiritual expression - one in which right and left-brain functioning will be more in balance and in which new capacities will emerge that will enable a wider range of mental and perceptual activities than are present today.

Many of those who are presently diagnosed as 'autistic', today, are the forerunners of this transition into a new level of brain functioning. They do not appear as such because of the limitation that autism brings to their lives on so many levels. But they have chosen to experience this limitation in order that further on in their development, they may express as more evolved and balanced beings and ones for whom more will be possible. The reason for this choice is hidden within the inner motivational pattern of each soul according to its own Divine essence and its need to manifest the truth of who it is. It is not something that can be seen from an outer perspective, or understood within any other frame of reference other than the drive of a soul to seek its own self-realization.

There are, of course, other reasons that are karmic that a soul chooses to experience limitation in this as well as in other areas of life, but the karmic purpose of limitation can also be employed in service to the larger spiritual purpose of evolving brain function and capacity.

To see those who are diagnosed as 'autistic' as forerunners of a new generation of capable souls who will emerge from these very limitations is a perception that requires a deep understanding of the sequence of lifetimes and how they contribute to and enhance one another. Without such a perspective, this context for viewing autism makes no sense. Within such a perspective, however, it may be seen that what has limitation on one side, may have advantage on the other, and that souls may have chosen to experience both the limitation and the advantage because of their desire to quicken their own spiritual development.

The problem of autism is indeed a problem for individuals, for families, and for society as a whole, with much hardship involved on a personal and familial level where the emotional and physical challenges are very great. However, as with any other physically manifesting problem, it can be considered to be an avenue of growth as well as of difficulty.

One way of looking at the problem in its present context is to find ways of supporting the positive qualities of functioning and of life that are present within autistic individuals, and to know that these are always there, no matter what outer behaviors may suggest. Such support can go a long way toward affirming the value of a lifetime in which great limitation is present. It can also acknowledge the soul within that has chosen the limitation and can accord to that soul equal dignity and equal opportunity to live to the limits of their capacity, rather than seeing the diagnosis as a detriment to life. Such a view is optimistic and supportive, and allows families and society as a whole to view the sacred life within the limitation, rather than viewing the person as the limitation, thus enabling that person to live a fuller and more fulfilled life.

Understanding What An Autism Diagnosis Means

An autism diagnosis simply means that there is a part of the brain that interferes with the ability to interact and communicate with others. Symptoms of autism are usually always noticeable before the age of three. There are three main symptoms that are used to determine if a child is autistic:

1. They have no desire to interact with other children or even their parents.

2. There is no interest in the world around them except for focusing on one or two things, usually objects that they may develop unnaturally strong attachments to.

3. Repetitive behavior or in some cases biting themselves or banging their head is the third major symptom.

There are other symptoms that lead to the autism diagnosis. They are varied but normally always have some common traits. They may include some or all of the following as well as others:

1. Delayed development, such as talking, walking, and the normal learning that toddlers go through.

2. Extreme sensitivity to being touched and they do not want to cuddle or be hugged like most children.

3. Does not appear to hear you when you are talking to them and does not make eye contact.

4. Easily upset if their regular routine is changed.

5. A tolerance for pain but an aversion to being touched may be displayed.

6. Repetitive behavior is another symptom. This may include arranging their toys in a certain way.

There are no medical tests that will allow your doctor to tell you a certain test showed positive for an autism diagnosis. There are however, tests that can tell you if the symptoms which are being displayed are the result of something entirely different than autism. Autism has been shown to be more prevalent in some families than others.

The consensus is this affliction could be hereditary, while there are beliefs that autism could be caused by a child’s surroundings. There is also the consideration that autism could be caused by a gene. At this point, doctor’s opinions vary on why one child develops autism and others do not, and at this time there is no concrete scientific evidence to know what causes autism for sure.

There are also different levels of autism. The autism diagnosis may be such that the symptoms indicate a mild level of this disease. The person with mild autism may be able to live independently if the diagnosis is made early enough.

Often doctors use autism specific screening tests after listening to concerns of parents who feel their child is not developing normally. If preliminary testing shows the presence of autism, a more comprehensive test may be ordered by your doctor.

The statistics say that for every 100 children, three to six will be diagnosed with autism. The odds are higher for males, who are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than females.

The American Academy of Pediatrics believes every child should have a preliminary screening for autism when they have their 18 and 24 month check-ups. This could help in early diagnosis and treatment. The main thing to keep in mind is there are treatments to help control autism. Every child is different and what may work for one will not necessarily work for another. The key is handing the situation if your child is tested and an autism diagnosis is made so that you can plan for their future accordingly.

Autism and Body Language

Now that we have learned that autism creates havoc with verbal speech and the communication between the brain and how speech is produced, we now have to look at how autism affects body language. Body language is the second form of communication that humans use to express their wants and emotions. As with speech, the autistic child has difficulty or no skill at all deciphering what a person is saying with facial expressions or body language. If you want someone to come closer you wave to them. If you want somebody to know your angry, you usually have a scowl on your face. If you are sad or happy, you can see the emotion in your facial expression and how you move your body.

The autistic child does not have an understanding or either body language of facial expression. They are in a world that is centered in themselves and the nuances of a gesture or hand motion is lost to them. Most autistic children have a hard time making eye contact during conversation. If the adult speaking or working with them does have this knowledge of no eye contact, it can be very for that adult to understand what is happening. It can be frustrating for both the adult and the child when that simple knowledge can save a lot of grief. The child may be listening to you and maybe even understand what you have said, but there attention and focus looks like it is on something else.

The autistic child may not even be looking at what you are thinking they are looking at. Eye contact is a simple human reaction to communication and that reaction within them does not exist. Even the simple activity of pointing to something you want can be lost in translation to the untrained parent or teacher. If the child is pointing at a cookie, the cookie may not be the object of his or her desire. The cookie is a symbol that may represent that they are hungry or it may be so abstract that the shape of the cookie, round, is the same shape as the toilet and they need to use the restroom. Even color may be an indication of a connection between a want and an abstract idea. It takes time and observation and a lot of out of the box thinking to link the communication patterns of an autistic individual.

The autistic child will have trouble associating your voice and your words in exactly what you want from them. Even their name may not be recognizable to them in their brain and the response to your words may be slow or may not be attended to at all. For this reason some autistic children who have not been diagnosed yet will have a diagnosis of a hearing problem. This is not the case. The child just does not know to respond to your words and if they respond it may not be in the manner that the parent or other adult expects.

The use of grammar in a sentence for mild autistic child is again a problem. Personal pronouns and verb agreement sometimes do not meet what the adult wants the child to say. You may say, 'it is your birthday today,' and the child will repeat the entire sentence back to you without changing the your to my. First, second, and third person is not always used correctly or will not be used at all. Some autistic children will be stuck on one view of person and will use it in every context. It takes patience and time to be able to build a communication process, and even with both the autistic child may never be able to communicate their needs.

Autism Research and Education

Autism Research-

Autism can be defined as an abnormal absorption with the self, which is marked by communication disorders and short attention span and inability to treat others as people. It drastically affects a person's behavior with others as well as with self. The person suffering from autism is unable to relate to the world or comprehend it. An autistic often suffers from learning disabilities. A research shows that autism has increases as much as ten times over the last decade. Many researches have been carried out by psychologists and researchers to understand how an autistic's mind functions and what is the wiring in the brain like.

Causes an symptoms of autism:

Most researchers believe that there are no definite reasons for autism to develop. It is more often than not genetically inherited. Also this disorder can be caused due to inappropriate before and after birth conditions. Any kind of damage caused to the brain can lead to autism.

The symptoms of autism are complex; hence diagnosis cannot be done very easily. During the early stages of autism, it becomes difficult to spot it, however as it goes on the becoming more and more severe, clear behavior differences can be noted. The person's social interaction becomes greatly affected. An autistic shows an array of symptoms, including problems interacting with other people and repetitive behaviors. There are many autism research centers.

What does autism research aim at?

These researchers try to determine causes and treatments and prevention for autism. Researchers at the new center will seek to develop ways to identify different subcategories of autism. These researches are essential as allow clinicians to tailor interventions and make predictions about a child's future functioning. Some researches believe that autistic children can be cured and these children can grow up and lead lives as normal adults.

The researchers have also differentiated between 2 categories of autism, complex and essential. These categories are studied and separate treatments are drawn. The children require quiet atmosphere to concentrate and learn social skill. Given a chance to have specialized education and structured support these children can be completely treated of the disorder.

Autism Education:

Autism is a brain disorder that begins in early childhood and persists throughout adulthood which affects three crucial areas of development that are communication and language, social interaction, and creative or imaginative play.

Education for autism:
Past two decades, many effective strategies have been developed to teach children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with autism but however not everyone involved in education or even special education is knowledgeable about all these methods.' Few teachers work in an autism-specific classroom and most are responsible for classes where a variety of disabilities is represented.' Now a days overworked and stressed teachers may not have the time or the resources to implement an effective program for every child hence it is important for parents to develop a sense of their child's learning style, and to educate themselves about what strategies will best help their child to succeed in school. At last parents are said to be the best teacher of their child. Some education centers or organization listed below:
* The Autism Education Network's mission is to improve public special education programs and to influence public policy that affects individuals with autism and this mission uses new technology and the Internet to connect in order to empower people that affect to change.
* The TEACCH (treatment and education of autistic and related communication handicapped children) mission helps to enable individuals with autism to function as meaningfully and as independently as possible in the community and they also provide exemplary services throughout North Carolina to individuals with autism and their families and those who serve and support them.

* NECC - 30 Years of Autism Education in New England
The New England Center for Children (NECC), a school for autism located 20 miles west of Boston in Southborough, Massachusetts is a private, nonprofit autism education center dedicated to bringing out human potential and creating productive lives for children with autism. Since 1975, this school provides state-of-the-art autism education and individualized treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD), and Asperger's Syndrome.
* RAE(resource in autism education ) is an organization committed to providing the highest quality behavioral intervention services to children diagnosed with autism and related Pervasive Development Disorders and also empowers people with autism.

Hence these organizations help autistic people to improve them.

The Importance of Keeping an Autism Symptoms Checklist

Autism is a neurological disorder that may lead to serious damage at behavioral, communication and social interactions level. Usually confirmed during the first periods of life, autism is considered to be a serious condition that determines abnormalities in the development of children. The first autism symptoms can sometimes be observed at birth. However, the presence of such a disorder is usually confirmed later, at ages around one or two years. Children with autism may experience milder forms of the disorder, or, on the contrary, they may be affected by more severe forms of autism.

Autism is a disorder that affects the way people relate to others, perceive and express feelings, communicate with other people, behave and adapt to new situations. At the first sight, a person who suffers from autism appears to be normal and in fact, autistic people aren't very different from people not affected by the disorder. Some autistic people have average and above average IQ's, and the disorder affects people regardless of their intelligence level. People with autism usually focus their intelligence towards working with numbers, excelling in areas like mathematics. Despite the fact that many autistic people are very intelligent, they are unable to express themselves or to properly relate to other people. They usually have low emotional intelligence and behaviors targeted towards the self.

Parents suspecting that their children might be affected by autism should pay careful attention to autism symptoms. If autism symptoms are spotted soon, the damage done by the disorder can be controlled. Autistic children that receive the appropriate treatment, special care and attention, are less likely to develop severe forms of the disorder. Therefore, speed is vital in detecting the first autism symptoms. Parents that notice abnormalities in the behavior of their children should consider keeping track of autism symptoms with the help an autism symptoms checklist. It is best to keep an autism symptom checklist and to verify the responsiveness of children earlier than the age of two years, in order to be able to intervene in the development of the disorder.

Here is an autism symptoms checklist presenting the most common autism symptoms to small children and babies:

- inappropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills;

- strong resistance to environmental and behavioral change (autistic children don't let people interfere with their routine, engaging in repetitive, stereotype behaviors and activities; they also have low adaptability to new situations);

- hyper-activity or hypo-activity (autistic children usually have extreme behaviors; they are either very active, being difficult to calm down, or passive, avoiding any interactions and showing little responsiveness to stimuli);

- inability to understand and act in the presence of danger (autistic children usually don't seem to be aware of potential dangers);

- poor imitational skills (inability of imitating simple gestures or facial expressions);

- low responsiveness to the hearing of their own name;

- difficulties in social interactions, avoidance of making eye contact with people;

- the tendency of engaging in activities and behaviors that may result in self-harm (banging their heads against their cribs, excessively scratching their skin);

- poor emphatic skills (children with autism experience difficulties in relating with other people; they also can't express their compassion or understanding to people in distress).

These autism symptoms presented above are the most common signs of abnormalities that children with the disorder might present and it is very important to spot them as soon as possible. This autism symptoms checklist should guide you in revealing the presence of autism during children's first years of life.

Autism-Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Autism is a disorder that is usually first diagnosed in early childhood. Children with autism might have problems talking with you, or they might not look you in the eye when you talk to them. They may have to line up their pencils before they can pay attention, or they may say the same sentence again and again to calm themselves down. They may flap their arms to tell you they are happy, or they might hurt themselves to tell you they are not. Some people with autism never learn how to talk.

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person's ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.

What Causes Autism?

The bottom line is, no one really knows for sure what causes autism. Most experts will say that autism is probably caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Even those experts, though, do not have a definite answer. For many people, this uncertainty is terribly frustrating. On the plus side, interest in and funding for autism research is on the rise, so new and better information should be forthcoming in the next months and years.

Autism Symptoms

Autism is a condition surrounded by myth and generalizations about people with autism that are rarely appropriate. The common beliefs that people with autism never express emotion, never smile or laugh, never make eye contact, never talk, and never display affection are simply that--myths. Just as every person is unique, with his or her own personality and characteristics, every person with autism manifests the disorder in his or her unique way.

Other signs of the disorder in infants include the following:

Appears indifferent to surroundings

Appears content to be alone, happier to play alone

Displays lack of interest in toys

Displays lack of response to others

Call Your Doctor If:

Your infant or child resists cuddling and doesn't respond to his or her environment or to other people.

By about the age of 1 year, your child is not pointing to objects, bringing items to you or engaging in simple interactions such as "peek-a-boo."

How is autism diagnosed?

There is no lab test that can detect autism. Autism is often diagnosed when a baby or toddler doesn't behave as expected for his or her age. If your doctor thinks your child has autism, he or she will probably suggest that your child see a child psychiatrist or other specialist. The specialist will probably test your child to see if he or she shows signs of autism.

What's the treatment?

There is no specific cure or particular medical treatment for autism, but much can be done to maximise a child's potential and this is key to managing the condition. Appropriate specialist education, speech, language and behavioural therapy are all important. There are many different approaches, some of which are based around theories about possible causes of autistic spectrum disorders (for example, the Son-Rise programme).

Autism Symptoms Checklist

There has been a great deal in the news lately about the increase in autism. You might wonder how you would know if your child was autistic. There are some symptoms that you can watch for in your child. If you see any of the symptoms of autism in your child you should ask your doctor to evaluate your child. The sooner the child is diagnosed the sooner they can receive treatment.

1. A child with autism will not reach the typical milestones that other children reach until a much later age. If you are noticing that your child is not reaching the milestones until much later than they should, you should speak with your doctor.

2. A child with autism might not speak. Children will begin to speak at different ages and every child is different. If you notice that your child is not even making the typical babbling noises that babies make by the age of one year old, you should discuss the problem with the doctor.

3. A child with autism will not make eye contact. If you notice that your child will not look at you when you are speaking it might be a cause for concern. Children will often look directly at the person who is speaking to them, autistic children do not. They will also not look at something that you are pointing to. Instead the autistic child will look beyond the thing that you are pointing at.
